The Art Of Back Bends

8th May

12pm - 2:30pm

Healthy technique and anatomical awareness is crucial for long term practice of back bending

When I first started yoga I was naturally more flexible than strong with hyper-mobile joints and very weak upper body strength. With that it meant the natural flexibility didn't mean back bending was particularly easy and it took a long time for me to tune into what I needed to work on in order to become stronger and practice safely.

Particularly with the ashtanga method one of the deepest lessons in the practice is about cleansing the nervous system and back bends have a huge role to play in this. Many students find back bending scary, uncomfortable and often emotional which makes it difficult to breathe, remain calm, be present and think clearly.

Healthy technique and anatomical awareness is crucial for long term practice of Back bending. It often doesn't really matter wether you are stiff or flexible in your spine if you are unfamiliar with the strength, stamina and flexibility needed for most back bending movements.

During this workshop we will focus on -

• Discussing how back bends work

• Finding out what you as an individual need to work on

• Exploring individual areas of the body that have a big part to play in back bending, particularly the shoulders, thighs and hips.

• Learn simple 'Every day essentials' that you can integrate into your daily life to improve your back bends

Suitable for all levels and abilities

Investment - £20
