Explore Meditation Through Asana & Pranayama

Explore Meditation Through Asana & Pranayama

“Through the practices of asana and pranayama, the mind becomes steady and one pointed and thus one can progress quickly in concentration and meditation” – Swami Vishnudevananda.

Explore this principle with Josh Lipscombe, founder of The Yoga Factory

During this 2 hour workshop we will explore the deeper meditative yogic exercises through the practice of asana (movement), pranayama (breath work) and Savasana (relaxation).

During each posture (asana) the muscles are contracting through twisting, forward and backward bending, balancing and other various movements which allows for a smoother blood flow throughout the body.

Due to the low intensity of the yogic exercises low amounts of lactic acid are produced compared to other high impact exercise.

Whilst the whole body is being stretched and relaxed, blood flows equally and freely throughout the muscles and ligaments with oxygen rich blood supplying the body with fresh new energy. As the body relaxes after holding a steady asana with full concentration the brand new energy fills the muscle fibres allowing a more mobile and energetic body.

Apart from deepening your practice through asanas we will also learn/practice 2 pranayama exercises. The mind is naturally unsteady and is constantly being affected by external objects such as sight, sound and smell…These basic pranayama exercises help the mind to focus and become one pointed ultimately bringing about relaxation to both the physical body and mind.

Looking forward to sharing this with you!

Mindfulness Day Retreat

Mindfulness Day Retreat

There’s no better time to bring the essential practice of mindfulness to our lives right now.

Transitioning into autumn and winter, our mind and body often take a moment to catch up with what our environment has to offer us. So, we have put a one-day yoga retreat together for you to help tune in and connect your mind and body to the present moment.

Transition through the seasons with ease, enjoy yourself and take in all the gloriousness of what’s around you.

Mindfulness is a vital and very easy way of bringing your attention into the here and now. So often as we approach winter our mind goes off thinking of a million things to do, a million places to be and stress and anxiety start to set in. By bringing your attention back to being aware of where you are right now you can reduce negative feelings such as overwhelming stress, anxiety, and depression and start to promote mental and physical well-being. You will find mental clarity, your immune system will get a boost and your capacity for kindness and compassion for yourself and others will hit the roof.

Your day will be full to the brim of activities designed to upgrade your mindfulness levels to the max. The retreat will include meditation, a full-length mindful vinyasa yoga class with Natalie Claxton to start to learn how we can use the breath to connect with the present moment as well as a beautiful yin yoga class with Emily Morris created to release deep seated tensions and stresses, and you will learn the mindful art of Canang Sari, which is the Balinese practice of creating an offering out of leaves and flowers. We have brought in a local artist, Lesley Morris to teach you this easy to learn craft using seasonal elements of nature that will bring you into the moment, open your creative channels, relax your nervous system, release stress and most of all have fun. Of course, no retreat would be complete without some nourishing food, which will be freshly prepared by awesome chef Charlotte of Oat Kitchen.

We have mats for you to use and some blankets and cushions to make you extra comfy. So all that is needed is you!

This day is ALL about YOU. Even if you’ve never done any of the activities before, this is your day to try something new and give yourself a little time out to get connected, refreshed and revitalized and ready for the seasons to come.

Sunday 8th October. 12 - 5.30pm. Investment £60. Spaces are limited.

Play... Fly... Nourish - A Weekend of Workshops with Calli

Special Guest Teacher - CalliYoga - A Weekend Of Workshops

We are super excited to have the awesome Calli Yoga join us from London for a whole weekend of playful exploring and nourishing workshops. Turning things upside down, on our hands and finding ease and grace in our practice.

Arm Balances: Set Your Foundations To Fly - Saturday 18th November 2:30 - 4:30 pm.

This workshop will explore the alignment, strength & stability required to arm balance with ease. Breaking down the correct alignment of Chaturanga as the basis of all arm balances, ensuring we have strong foundations from which to grow. Once stable we will build from the ground up, exploring core strength, shoulder girdle stability & whole body integration in arm balances such as Bakasana (Crow), Ashtavakrasana, & Eka Pada Koundinyasana. This workshop will give you the tools to add arm balances into your practice with confidence and explore transitioning to and from them effortlessly.

Powerful Play: A Journey Upside Down - Sunday 19th November 12:30 - 2:30 pm.

Inversions encourage us to look at the world differently, to literally turn our world upside down, but with this can come an element of fear.  Fear of falling, failing or even allowing ourselves to see things from a different perspective. During this workshop we will explore inversions from the ground up, focusing on Headstand & Forearm balance as our base, creating a safe and stable foundation, breaking down key components anatomically but with a sense of play, we will build strength, stability, and courage to turn our worlds upside down.

Soul Food: Nourish, Evolve & Dissolve - Sunday 19th November 3 - 5 pm.

This workshop will guide you through the most delicious slow moving & spacious flow; a full spectrum practice, with a focus on finding grace and ease in transitions, whilst stretching and unfurling the physical body to release into the depths of each & every layer, physically and mentally. We will open up to explore finding space in backbends & flow freely without attachment to an outcome. Allowing an understanding that there is no rush, there is nowhere else we need to be. This practice will be a mix of slow moving vinyasa flow followed by restorative yoga, pranayama a long luxurious relaxation.

Total Yoga Gong Bath with Ben

Turn Up, Lay Down, Chill Out!

The Gong Bath is a deeply relaxing session, open to all levels; all you need to do is turn up, lay down and chill out! Then you will be ‘bathed’ in the vibrations of the gong. The gong has been used as a healing instrument for thousands of years within the East and is now being discovered in the West too. It is rapidly gaining in popularity due to its ability to take participants to a deeply relaxed space of both body and mind.

The gong activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which takes the body into a natural state of balance or homeostasis which is very healing, participants report they sleep better after the gong and their mood is improved often for days afterwards, others have reported release of emotional pain and mental blockages.

Ben Saxon is an experienced yoga teacher and has been hosting popular gong baths in Essex and London for the last 5 years. He trained under the renowned UK Gong Master, Mark Swan and uses only hand-made mallets to play the gong which enhances the sound, crystal bowls, rattles and chimes are also used to add texture to the soundscape.

Overall this a deeply therapeutic event which will stay with you long after the last strike of the gong and will activate your body’s natural ability to heal and detox, while calming and soothing busy minds.

To participate in the event please wear loose comfortable clothes you will be comfortable laying down in for an extended period of time, there will also be a short seated yoga warm up to release surface level tension in the body before the gong starts. Yoga mats and blankets will be supplied, although please feel free to bring your own pillows or duvets for extra comfort. Also bring water as the gong has a detoxing effect and it is good to hydrate fully afterwards.

EVOLUTIONARY SOUND – THE ULTIMATE RELAXATION SOUND HEALING EXPERIENCE

Do you find it difficult to get a minute to yourself?

Is your mind in a constant whirlwind of to-do lists, worry and anxiety?

Would you love an hour to yourself where you can totally relax, unwind and clear your head?

If you answered yes to any of the above then Evolutionary Sound is just for you!

Evolutionary Sound are hosting an Alchemy Crystal Sound Bath at The Yoga Factory where you can experience the calming frequencies of the crystal bowls. The tones and frequencies of the bowls will bring you into a state of deep relaxation allowing your body to rest, relax and revitalise. Something that has become a rarity for many people in the chaotic world we live in. Our sound baths will last 60-90 minutes. All you have to do is lie down, get comfortable and allow the sounds of the crystal bowls to take you on a journey of rest and relaxation.

What Is Sound Healing?

Everything that moves, vibrates and makes a sound. What this means is that each of us have our own unique frequency and sound. When we feel anxious, tired, stressed out or that our minds never stop, it means that our frequency is not in harmony. When this happens, we feel out of balance, we experience dis-ease and life can become very frustrating. Sound, whether we realise it or not, affects us all on an extremely deep level. It can penetrate every cell of your being right into your organs, bones, glands and muscles.

Did you know that quartz crystal is able to transform, store, focus, amplify and transfer energy?

Did you also know that for this reason quartz is used in computers, watches and television equipment and even your mobile phone? Their ability to take in information, transform, restore and amplify this energy is why the Alchemy Crystal Bowls that we use are SO incredibly powerful and effective in penetrating YOU on a cellular level. They are 99.99% pure quartz crystal blended with other rare crystals, minerals, metals and earths. Their unique properties produce a unique sound to each bowl and they each have a powerful ability to affect you in such a way that they restore your cells and every part of your body back to balance. Aligning your unique frequency, bringing you to a place of inner peace and harmony.

Meditation Workshop with Sarah Collins

“Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It is a way of entering into the quiet that is already there - buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day” -Deepak Chopra

Meditation can be made easy and it is accessible to EVERYBODY. Like learning any new skill sometimes we need guidance and encouragement to find our way there. That is the purpose of this meditation workshop.
There are different types of meditation but they are really just different pathways to the same place. My goal is to simplify everything so that you can go away with an understanding of the basics and begin a successful, enjoyable practice that will make a real difference to your life.
We will start small and build from there. During the workshop you will try some simple short guided meditations with time in between for questions and discussion.

Meditation has been in my life for many years, I have tried and tested many different types. I have found my way through the common difficulties we all face when trying to come inwards and learn to master our inner world of thoughts and feelings. I look forward to sharing what I have learnt with you.

Practice demo and Q&A with Jo Kemp & Mikey O'Regan

When Jo & Mikey visit their teacher Sharath Jois in Mysore, India once a week he will give a conference. He speaks about a subject and then offers a Q&A session. We thought it would be great to bring something like this to Southend.

Jo & Mikey will be offering students a demo of the full primary series followed by a Q&A session so that student can see how two very different bodies approach the practice. This is not a performance but merely a different method for students to gain a deeper understanding of the practice.

You will be able to drink tea etc whilst they practice and maybe jot down anything that comes to mind to talk about in the Q&A.

Whether you practice Ashtanga already or you're curious about the practice and how our Mysore classes work at the studio this is the perfect opportunity to gain a little insight in a comfortable, relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Join us on Saturday 20th May at 2pm... for this free event. So bring your friends, meet fellow yogis in the area and enjoy an afternoon at The Yoga Factory.
